In 1998, whilst studying midwifery in Leeds, Leonie was woken by God's presence; He spoke to her through Jeremiah 23:3-4.
He told her that she was to care for the women and children of Honduras. After qualifying as a midwife, Leonie learnt Spanish and moved to Honduras to fulful God's calling.
She has adopted a Honduran boy, called Joshua, a vibrant bilingual child who was neglected by his parents and abandoned when he was 18 months old. Joshua has been with Leonie since 2004.
In 2012, when life in Honduras became too dangerous for her and Joshua to stay, God opened the door for Leonie to continue to fulfil her calling through basing the ministry in the US.
